Veneers

These are shells of tooth-coloured material bonded over the surface of a natural tooth.

Porcelain Veneers are very thin and the tooth require little and sometimes no shaping before bonding onto tooth with a special resin glue.

Veneers option allow dentists to be more conservative and less destructive of the underlying natural teeth compared with the crown option.

veneer before

1. Patient unhappy with shape, colour and symmetry of teeth

veneers after

1. After restoration with Porcelain Veneers

Veneers may be used to improve:

  • Shape – chipped or abnormal looking teeth.
  • Colour – grossly discoloured teeth.
  • Position – closing gaps or artificially making teeth look more aligned.

The procedure is similar to that for a crown where, after preparation of tooth, impressions and colour matching are undertaken. After 2 weeks with temporaries, the final veneers are assessed and fitted.

To Note:

In certain cases we would encourage a more conservative approach to improving your smile through whitening possibly combined with orthodontic straightening.

Sometimes white fillings may be used as an alternative for smaller breaks. However, sometimes, unavoidably crowns may be the only effective solution.

With good maintenance and oral conditions, veneers may last up to 10 years. However, like natural teeth, veneers may fracture and chip.
