Veneers
These are shells of tooth-coloured material bonded over the surface of the natural tooth. They have many uses especially in Cosmetic Dentistry. They may be used to improve colour, shape and position of teeth. Veneers are useful in the following cases:
Worn enamel
General wear, tear and fractures
Abnormal Spacing in teeth
Uneven teeth
Discolouration cases*
Veneers are either made in the practice from a composite resin by your dentist or more precisely they are fabricated in the laboratory from composite resin or porcelain.
Veneers are very thin and the teeth require little and sometimes no shaping before bonding onto tooth. This process of “prepping” teeth permanently alters the teeth and should not be done if the natural teeth are functionally and aesthetically sound. Therefore in certain cases we would encourage a more conservative approach to improving your smile through whitening possibly combined with orthodontic straighteneing.
Discuss VENEERS with your dentist.
